The Zombies

A zombie is a monster, which is dead or a mindless human being. They often appear in large numbers and found among the lower forms of the undead. Although the origins of these pathetic and horrible creatures are not clear, the stories of zombies are believed to originate in the Afro-Caribbean spiritual belief system of Vodoo.

To study the monster zombie as a creature, it is important to know exactly what a zombie is. First, we need to make a distinction between two common terms used for zombies, Undead and Zombie. Undead is a collective term for fictional and mythological beings that are dead but behave as if alive. A zombie is a dead person who has been brought back to life through a curse or a mutation. The common traits of zombies monsters are that they are speechless and possess little reasoning power.

In modern movies, some people bitten by zombies become zombies themselves. Some others die from the bite and are reanimated as zombies by the same force that created other zombies. This continual spread of zombies leads to a outbreak in zombies and soon the undead outnumber living humans immensely. These famous monsters are often found hanging in packs, seen in heavily fogged areas near the burial grounds. Even though they never sleep, these horrible creatures usually only come out at night.


In the modern popular culture, there are two types of monsters zombies, based on the possible origins of zombies. One type of zombies monsters are developed by voodoo, which leads to a spell-bound near dead state. The other types are the cannibal creatures, a result of scientific experimentation of bizarre chemicals on living humans. Then there are also slow zombies, depending on their physical and mental characteristics. The new age of fast zombies, are believed to be infected living humans.

The famous Zombies monsters have been recognized as symbols of revenge, adolescent angst; sexual excess; frustrated ambition, and also as the longing for immortality; scientific irresponsibility; suburban stress etc; It’s not a surprise to see Zombies becoming popular in modern horror fiction. The huge success of George A. Romero's 1968 film Night of the Living Dead is popular even today. Today’s zombie is known to encompass a large variety of different undead-or-not creatures.
